St. Teresa of Avila, doctor of the Church and foundress of the Discalced Carmelites, wrote extensively on the interior life and the journey of the Soul in the life of Sanctification – the flourishing of the Soul in the life of God’s grace. As Catholics we rely on a rich spiritual tradition to help us along that path. The Carmelite Tradition has many doctors of the Church, including St Teresa, and their teachings are very valuable for those making the journey to union with God. When making this journey, a guide helps us walk along that path, avoid pitfalls, accompanies us, supports us and helps us flourish in the Spiritual life.
